Soundtrack: "Band of Gold" by Freda Payne
Sunday was my birthday as well as father's day so to celebrate I went to see "Hairspray the Musical" with my parents. Yup. It was my mom's idea, she loves musicals, she's seen like every one. As much as I love Hairspray the movie, the musical was so... musical-y. Like, so schmaltzy! I haven't seen a musical since I saw "Les Mis" in high school so I forgot they were like that. It was pretty funny actually, the whole thing reminded me of the "Turkey Lurkey" scene from that movie, Camp. Then we ate at a kosher deli called "Mr. Broadway" (you have to say the name with jazz hands) and I ate a huge thing of meat which, as you will soon see, did not stay as down as one might have hoped.
To add to the John Waters theme of my bday, Ryan gave me "A Dirty Shame" on dvd and then sploshed himself.
Mm, nuts!
Then it was off to, where else? Smiths Night, where Ben graciously played Belle & Sebastian songs for me and supplied me with the complimentary bottle of vodka which would ultimately lead to my shameful demise.
Abby and Garrick in the happier, earlier part of the evening, before they became increasingly concerned for my welfare.
Lelsey, Bill, Melissa
A tough (yet tender!) gang of hoodlums.
And there she is, my nemesis, the bringer of my doom.
This is the last thing I remember... (except who is that guy?)
No wait, THIS is the last thing I remember: the look of fear in Jesse's eyes as Ben played the song "Band of Gold" which I love so much that I was propelled to jump on Jesse's lap and do a sloppy Elizabeth Berkeley impersonation. Good lord. I do not know how to drink. Soon afterwards, I felt so sick I jumped in a cab, threw up my big birthday dinner all over my new skirt and somehow miraculously woke up the next morning safe at home, albeit with dried puke in my hair. I am one class act!
I just know being 23 is gonna rule!
