Soundtrack: "Rise Up with Fists!!!" by Jenny Lewis
After seeing the Whitney Biennial (which was pretty awesome) and then taking a hellish stroll down memory lane by walking a few blocks over to gaze upon my old high school (which was pretty much the worst high school ever), Jesse and Tara had the idea to go grab a bite at the fancy shmancy Carlyle Hotel. It was full of ladies-who-lunch types and there was a tuxedoed man playing piano. We ate fries and steamed asparagus and I only felt a tiny bit out of place, as opposed to feeling like a dirt-crusted bag lady, which is how I usually feel at fancy places. Perhaps my proximity to Jesse's classy corduroy blazer put me at ease.
Friday night I went to Passerby where Dan was having his after-party for his Gagosian bathroom show (he has a painting in each of the gallery's five bathrooms). Being at Passerby was another stroll down memory lane, as I used to spend many, many hours there a few years ago, doing many, many unspeakable things.
Passerby always has the best bartenders, like this awesome dude.
And this one! Meredith jumping behind the bar to bother John... Man, the nostalgia this picture brings me. Too bad I didn't have a blog back in the Art-Fag Mondays days (that's the name of the party me and Meredith used to do there circa 2000-1), cuz it would've made for some dazzling photo-blog material.
Somebody's always jumping up on the bar there. Every time.

The next night I went to see Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins at Irving Plaza. All three people I was supposed to go with cancelled on me last minute so I went by myself. How sad. Still, it was an awesome show. That Jenny's got some set of pipes on her, and I love her clever, bittersweet lyrics. I got misty-eyed!
Afterwards I joined in at the tail-end of a mysterious dinner party and drank soju (tasty Korean liquor) with Anna, Eli, Meredith, and Meredith's huge hat.
Miho made impromptu napkin art.
My soju had a cucumber in it that floated perfectly vertical.
