Glasgow was fucking awesome! I was only there for 2 days and I need to go back for longer. Scottish accents are the best and Scottish people are all really cool and weird looking! I totally loved it there.
As you may know, the purpose of my trip to Glasgow was to stalk Stuart from Belle & Sebastian. Okay, not really. I'm not a psycho I swear (at least I don't think so). It's just that Belle & Sebastian is my favorite band so I thought it would be fun to see if I would just HAPPEN to run into Stuart at some of the places that I heard that awesome people such as himself might go to on a regular basis. Long story short: there were no Stuart sightings. But that's okay, cuz I still had a rad time. And what would I have done if I even saw him? Nothing, probably. It was more about the thrill of the hunt!
My first stop was the Tinderbox cafe which wasn't that interesting, but that's where I met up with my wonderful tour-guide, Andy, an old friend of Oliver's from Liverpool who kindly agreed to show me around and let me stay at his dorm at Glasgow University. Thanks Andy!
From there we went to the way better Tchai Ovna, a really cute little tea place with an awesome garden.
I pretended to listen to Andy but really I was eavesdropping on the Scottish hipsters behind him. (Just kidding Andy, I was listening to you. Mostly.)
Then to rest for a bit, we went back to Andy's dorm which pretty much looks like every dorm in the universe right down to the lifesize Lindsey Lohan cardboard cutout.
You know the song "Like Dylan in the Movies" by B&S? Apparently it's about Kelvingrove Park which is rife with muggers and cruising homos at night. So naturally I had to walk through it. Fun!
Next stop was an awesome bar called Uisge Beatha (pronounced: Ish-ke-bah)...
Kinda like this Margaret Thatcher puppet.
The bartenders wore kilts. Hot! I dated a guy in college once who wore kilts a lot. But he wasn't Scottish, he was just weird. Actually he was pretty creepy.
We tried to go to some party at the Glasgow art college but it was closed when we got there so somehow we ended up at this place called the Buff Club (surprisingly not a gay bar). It was cheesy but fun. I don't think it's the sort of place members of B&S would go, but at that point I'd sorta given up anyway. Instead, I focused on taking pictures of cute Scottish people.
How much do I love this couple? I want to move to Glasgow and be best friends with them.
I thought he was cute.
So did she.
This is Julie from Dundee, the hottest lesbo in Scotland.
Julie took me to an apartment (I really hoped it was a squat!) in the bad part of town where her friends were doing drugs and talking in such think accents that all I could do was sit there with my mouth hanging open thinking, "Oh my god, I'm in Trainspotting!"
"Riding on city buses for a hobby is sad."
The next day I found my way back to Andy's, we walked around the university and the city center where I ogled all the Scottish schoolgirls in their cute little uniforms, and then boom, that was it. The end of my UK adventure. Is that anti-climactic? Whatevs, I had an awesome fucking time and I've spent like 5 hours putting these pages up and that's all I can muster for now. Hope you liked it. Bye!
Next stop: Belgium?
Song of the day:
"Oogum Boogum" by Brenton Wood
One of my top ten of all time possibly.
